New Delhi: Nearly a year since Covid-19 turned into a global pandemic, most countries have begun the process of inoculating their citizens. The US is conducting the highest number of cumulative vaccinations, while Israel has emerged to be the country conducting the highest number of vaccinations per million. India is fourth when it comes to cumulative vaccinations and tenth in terms of vaccinations per million.

To see how countries are progressing with their vaccination drives, ThePrint looks at 10 countries that have conducted the highest number of cumulative vaccinations in the world. These are also the 10 to have recorded the highest number of cases, which are (in descending order) the US, China, UK, India, Israel, Brazil, UAE, Germany, Russia and Turkey.

The US

At 2,82,61,470, the US has recorded the most number of Covid-19 cases in the world. As of 14 February, the country conducted 52.88 million vaccinations. The US has recorded the fourth highest vaccinations per million at 1,59,174.

China

China has recorded 89,772 cases of Covid-19 and 4,636 deaths so far. As of 9 February, the country has conducted 40.52 million vaccinations, which is the second highest number of vaccinations to have been conducted in the world. The country, though, stands at the seventh spot when it comes to vaccinations per million (28,152).

UK

The United Kingdom has recorded 40,38,078 cases of Covid-19 and 1,17,166 deaths so far. Till 14 February, the country had conducted 15.60 million vaccinations, which places it in the third highest spot of cumulative vaccinations conducted in the world. The country’s vaccination drive also put it in the third spot in the list of highest vaccinations per million (2,29,045).

India

While India, with 1,09,16,589 cases, has recorded the second highest number of Covid-19 cases in the world, it lags behind in terms of the number of vaccinations conducted. As of 14 February, it ranked fourth with 8.29 million vaccinations.

However, this lag can also be explained by the fact that India started its inoculation drive almost a month after the US. India started vaccinating its citizens on 16 January 2021, while the US had begun vaccinations on 14 December 2020.

India features at the tenth spot (out of 10 countries) when it comes to vaccinations per million — at 5,970.
