India sees lowest positivity rate of 2.5% since June & least daily Covid cases in 5 months

New Delhi: The number of new Covid-19 cases detected over the last 24 hours was the lowest in nearly five months. The test positivity rate also fell to its lowest since June, to 2.5 per cent.

The number of daily recorded deaths has remained under 500 in the past three days. Most high burden states, including Maharashtra and Karnataka, are seeing a decline in the number of active cases.

As many as 26,567 people were infected with Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. This is the lowest number of cases detected in a single day since 9 July, when 26,506 infections were reported.

The number of active cases in India fell to 3,83,866 Tuesday, the lowest since 19 July. This accounts for 3.96 per cent of the total cases detected in India since the beginning of the pandemic.

As many as 385 Covid-19 patients died across the country in the last 24 hours. Delhi and Maharashtra continue to report the highest number of deaths.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 1,40,958 people have succumbed to Covid-19.

The case fatality rate (CFR) in Punjab continues to be 3.14 — the highest in the country. Maharashtra and Sikkim also have a high CFR of 2.57 and 2.24 respectively. Sikkim’s CFR has been showing an increasing trend for the past few days.

Kerala, which despite having high number of cases, has a low CFR of 0.37. India’s overall case fatality rate is 1.45 now.

In the last 24 hours, 10,26,399 Covid-19 tests were conducted across 1,189 government and 1,021 private laboratories.

As many as 14,88,14,055 tests have been conducted since the beginning of the pandemic.

As the number of cases detected over the last 24 hours reduced, the test positivity rate (TPR) also dipped to 2.5 per cent, the lowest since June.

The overall TPR for India, calculated since the beginning of the pandemic, is 6.5 per cent.

As many as 91,78,946 people in India have recovered from Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. In the last 24 hours, 39,045 Covid-19 patients were discharged.

India has the highest number of Covid-19 recoveries in the world.

India has so far had a total of 97,03,770 Covid-19 cases — the second highest in the world.

States with the highest active cases

Maharashtra reported 3,075 new cases in the last 24 hours, which brings the total number of infections in the state to 18,55,341.

There has been a significant decline in the number of active cases in the state. The number of active cases stood at 76,852 Tuesday.

The state reported 40 deaths over the last 24 hours, bringing the total casualties due to Covid-19 to 47,774.

Kerala, once again, reported the highest number of new cases in a single day among the states with the most number of active cases. In the last 24 hours, 3,272 people tested positive for the disease, bringing the total number of cases detected in the state so far to 6,39,664.

Of these, 2,441 Covid-19 patients have succumbed to the viral disease, with 23 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

Karnataka, which has the second highest number of Covid-19 cases in India after Maharashtra, saw a decline in its daily case numbers. In the last 24 hours, 998 cases of Covid-19 were detected across the state. The number of active cases in the state as of Tuesday were 24,786.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, as many as 11,867 people have died in the state, with 11 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

West Bengal now has the fourth highest number of active cases in the country. In the last 24 hours, 2,214 people have tested positive for Covid-19, while 48 people died.

The number of active cases in the state now stands at 23,829. So far, 5,05,054 people have tested positive for the disease. Of these, 8,771 people have died, with 48 deaths being reported in the last 24 hours.

In Delhi, as many as 63 people died in the last 24 hours — which is the highest among all Indian states Tuesday. This takes the total Covid-19 death toll of Delhi to 9,706.

In the last 24 hours, 1,674 people have tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of cases detected from the capital city so far to 5,93,924. Of these, 22,486 cases are active.
