India’s active Covid case count rises, 108 deaths reported in 24 hours

New Delhi: In the last 24 hours, 15 states and Union Territories have reported a rise in their active case count, increasing the total number of active Covid cases in India to 1,42,562.

The top three states with the highest number of active cases — Kerala, Maharashtra and Karnataka — reported a significant increase in their cases.

Bihar and Delhi also saw a rise in active cases.

In India, 12,923 new cases of Covid-19 infections were reported in the last 24 hours. Kerala and Maharashtra accounted for 73 per cent of these cases.

In the past 24 hours, active cases in India increased to 1,42,562. This is the second time in the last six days that active cases have seen a rise.

India’s Covid-19 death toll now stands at 1,55,360, with 108 deaths reported in the last 24 hours. Maharashtra and Kerala reported the highest number of deaths.

Punjab’s case fatality rate remains the highest in the country at 3.23. Meanwhile, Maharashtra’s CFR is the second highest at 2.50. Sikkim’s fatality rate has increased to 2.20. The overall fatality rate for India has reduced to 1.43.

In the last 24 hours, 6,99,185 Covid-19 tests were carried out across 1,214 government laboratories and 1,159 private laboratories in the country.

A total of 20,33,24,655 Covid-19 tests have been carried out in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.

Positivity rate

The test positivity rate for India has increased to 1.8 per cent. The overall positivity rate, calculated since the beginning of the pandemic, is 5.3 per cent.

Recovered cases

In the last 24 hours, 11,764 Covid-19 patients were discharged across India. This brings the total number of recoveries since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,05,73,372.

A total of 68,26,898 healthcare workers have been vaccinated in the country so far.

Thirteen states and Union Territories — Bihar, Tripura, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Lakshadweep, Kerala, Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Rajasthan — have vaccinated more than 65 per cent of the registered healthcare workers.

Meanwhile, Punjab, Meghalaya, Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu, Manipur, Nagaland and Puducherry have reported less than 40 per cent coverage of registered healthcare workers.

Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra have recorded the highest number of vaccinations.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 1,08,71,294 people in India have been infected with Covid-19. The highest number of cases have been reported from Maharashtra, followed by Karnataka and Kerala.

Active cases in Kerala have increased to 64,607 with 5,980 new Covid-19 cases reported in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of cases in the state to 9,83,374.

A total of 3,920 people have died due to Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic, with 18 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra’s active case increased to 36,917. As many as 3,451 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in the state in the last 24 hours.

This brings the total number of cases detected from the state to 20,52,253. With 30 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, Maharashtra’s death toll has increased to 51,390.

Karnataka reported 479 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total infections detected in the state to 9,43,627.

It also reported an increase in active cases to 5,894. As many as 12,244 people have died in the state, with three deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

West Bengal’s active case count fell to 4,387, as the state reported 179 new Covid-19 cases. A total of 5,71,815 cases have been reported from the state so far.

West Bengal’s death toll stands at 10,220, with five deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

Tamil Nadu saw its active cases drop to 4,309, with 479 new cases of Covid-19 detected in the last 24 hours. A total of 8,43,209 people in the state have been infected with Covid-19 so far.

Of these, 12,396 people have died with five deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
