India records 1,027 Covid deaths in 24 hrs, over 13,000 cases in Delhi for first time

New Delhi: With 13,468 new cases reported in the last 24 hours, Delhi has surpassed all of its previous Covid-19 peaks. Despite having a lower population density than Mumbai, the national capital has fared much worse than Mumbai in terms of daily Covid-19 cases throughout the pandemic.

Currently, Mumbai is witnessing a decline in its daily cases.

Active cases in India increased to 13,65,704 Wednesday — the highest in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.

Over the last 24 hours, 1,84,372 people tested positive for Covid-19 across the country. A third of these cases are being reported from Maharashtra.

As many as 1,027 people in the country died of Covid-19 over the last 24 hours. This is the highest number of deaths reported in the last six months. This brings the country’s total Covid toll to 1,72,085.

Punjab’s case fatality rate reduced further to 2.72 — which is still the highest in the country. Sikkim’s CFR is now 2.11. Meanwhile, West Bengal’s CFR is now higher than that of Maharashtra’s.

Wes Bengal’s fatality rate rose to 1.67, while Maharashtra’s fatality rate is 1.66. The overall CFR for India is now 1.24 per cent.

The rapid drop in fatality rate can be attributed to the rise in active case numbers.

The test positivity over the last 24 hours increased to 13 per cent, with the rise in number of positive cases. TPR over 10 per cent indicates that testing is not sufficient.

Daily vaccinations

On the last day of the ‘Tika Utsav’, just 26,46,528 vaccine doses were administered across the country. So far, 11,11,79,578 vaccine doses have been administered in India.

As many as 1,38,77,664 people have received both doses of the vaccine in India so far.

In the last 24 hours, 14,11,758 Covid-19 tests were carried out across 1,230 government laboratories and 1,223 private laboratories. Over 26 crore tests have been carried out in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.

Recovered cases

As many as 82,339 patients have been discharged from Covid-19 hospitals across India in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of recoveries since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,23,36,036.

As many as 1,38,73,825 people in India have been infected with Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. The largest number of cases so far have been reported from Maharashtra, followed by Kerala and Karnataka.

States with highest active cases

Active cases in Maharashtra increased to 5,94,585 Wednesday, with 60,212 new cases reported from the state since yesterday.

A total of 35,19,208 people from the state have been infected with Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. Of these, 58,526 people have died, with 281 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

Chhattisgarh reported 15,121 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. This takes the total number of active cases in the state to 1,09,139.

A total of 4,71,994 cases were detected from the state since the beginning of the pandemic. As many as 156 Covid-19 patients have died in the state in the last 24 hours, which takes the death toll to 5,187.

Uttar Pradesh reported 17,963 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. This takes the total number of active cases in the state up to 95,980. A total of 7,23,582 people in the state have reported to be positive for the virus since the beginning of the pandemic.

The state’s Covid death toll increased to 9,309, with 85 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

Active cases in Karnataka increased to 78,636, with 8,778 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.

A total of 10,83,647 Covid-19 cases have been reported from the state since the beginning of the pandemic.

With 67 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the death toll increased to 13,008.

In Kerala, active Covid-19 cases increased to 52,450, with 7,515 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.

This takes the total number of cases detected from the state to 11,80,397 since the beginning of the pandemic. With 20 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the state’s Covid-19 death toll increased to 4,814.
