New Delhi: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Wednesday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to stop the “misinformation campaign” on vaccination by yoga guru and co-founder of Patanjali Ayurveda, Baba Ramdev.

The letter noted that Ramdev’s claim that doctors have died even after getting both doses of the coronavirus vaccine would create vaccine hesitancy and needed to be curbed.

Calling Ramdev’s remarks a “clear-cut case of sedition”, the association said “such persons should be booked immediately without any delay under the charges of sedition”.

In a viral video, Ramdev said over 10,000 doctors in India had died despite getting both doses of the vaccine. “A thousand doctors have died even after getting the double dose of vaccines. What kind of doctors are they if they could not save themselves?” he said.

He also called allopathy “stupid science“.

“We are pained to witness the great services rendered by nearly 10 lakhs of modern medical doctors in the forefront to work with dedication to keep the mortality of our corona patients around 1 per cent with limited manpower and resources, which many developed countries could not achieve are ridiculed and called as a stupid system,” the IMA letter added.

The IMA also said any claims of allopathic medicines killing people is “an attempt to challenge” the health ministry which has issued that protocol for treatment.

‘Dispelled vaccine hesitancy’

In its letter, the IMA also thanked PM Modi for his initiative to augment indoor production of vaccines.

The letter also said IMA leaders “dispelled the vaccine hesitancy” by getting vaccinated first, and said only 0.06 per cent of those vaccinated had mild Covid infections.

“It is gratifying to note that only 0.06% of people who received both the vaccine got minimal infection by a coronavirus, and very rarely vaccinated people had a severe lung infection. It is well proved, that by vaccination we save our people and country from catastrophic cascades of severe infection,” the letter said.
