New Delhi: Active cases once again spiked Friday, with new Covid-19 infections crossing 5,000 in Maharashtra in the last 24 hours. Daily new cases across India crossed 13,000 Friday — the highest in the last two weeks.
The mortality rate, on the other hand, dropped to 1.42. Over 98.5 lakh doses of vaccines have now been administered to healthcare and frontline workers across India.
R value

India’s effective reproduction number (R) — an indicator of how fast the infection is spreading — has increased slightly from 0.92 last week to 0.93 this week.
Daily cases

As many as 13,193 people tested positive for Covid-19 across the country in the last 24 hours. This is the highest number of daily positive cases since 31 January.
Active cases

Active cases in India increased to 1,39,542 Friday. The number of active cases has been fluctuating throughout the week.
Number of deaths

India has reported 97 Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours. This takes the country’s overall toll to 1,56,111. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Delhi and West Bengal have recorded the highest number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
Mortality rate

The overall fatality rate for India dropped to 1.42 Friday. Punjab’s case fatality rate (CFR) remains the highest in the country, at 3.23. Meanwhile, Maharashtra’s CFR is the second highest at 2.48 and Sikkim’s fatality rate is 2.20.
Daily tests

In the last 24 hours, a total of 7,71,071 Covid-19 tests were conducted across 1,218 government laboratories and 1,171 private laboratories. Over 20.9 crore tests have been carried out in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.
Positivity rate

The daily test positivity rate for India was 1.7 per cent in the last 24 hours. The overall positivity, calculated since the beginning of the pandemic, is 5.2 per cent.
Recovered cases

As many as 10,896 Covid-19 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of Covid-19 recoveries, since the beginning of the pandemic, to 1,06,67,741.
Daily vaccinations

A total of 98.5 lakh Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered to healthcare and frontline workers across India so far.
This includes 62,34,635 healthcare workers who received the first dose and 4,64,932 healthcare workers who have received the second dose. As many as 31,46,956 frontline workers have also been given the first dose since 2 February.
Total cases

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 1,09,63,394 people in India have been infected with Covid-19. The largest number of cases reported so far have been from Maharashtra, followed by Kerala and Karnataka.
States with the highest active cases

Active cases in Kerala went down to 60,451 Friday, with 4,584 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. A total of 10,21,432 cases of Covid-19 have been detected from the state since the beginning of the pandemic.
With 14 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the state’s Covid-19 death toll rose to 4,046.
Maharashtra continued to report a rise in active cases. With 5,427 people testing positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, the state’s active cases rose to 42,047 Friday.
A total of 51,669 people in the state have died of Covid-19 so far, with 38 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
Active cases in Karnataka rose to 5,811 Friday, with 406 new Covid-19 cases reported in the last 24 hours. This brings the total infections detected in the state, since the beginning of the pandemic, to 9,46,860.
With six deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the state’s death toll rose to 12,282.
In Tamil Nadu, 457 new cases of Covid-19 were detected in the last 24 hours. A total of 8,46,937 people in the state have so far been infected with Covid-19. Of these 4,173 cases are currently active.
With six deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the state’s Covid-19 death toll rose to 12,444.
West Bengal reported 181 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases detected from the state so far to 5,73,193.
Active cases in the state fell to 3,672 Friday. With two deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the state’s Covid-19 death toll rose to 10,239.
