From creating a central talent pool for all services to setting up a single integrated exam, the government think tank proposed several changes.
New Delhi: The Niti Aayog has suggested that the upper age limit for entry into the civil services be brought down to 27 years from the present 30 years for general category candidates in a phased manner by 2022-23.
In the ‘Strategy for New India @75’ document released on Wednesday, the government think-tank also pitched for an integrated exam for all civil services.
“The upper age limit for the civil services should be brought down to 27 years for the general category in a phased manner by 2022-23,” the document said.
It also said the existing 60-plus separate civil services at the central and state level need to be reduced through rationalisation and harmonisation of services.
“Recruits should be placed in a central talent pool, which would then allocate candidates by matching their competencies and the job description of the post,” it said.
“Concomitantly, the number of exams for civil services should ideally be brought down to one with all-India ranking. States may also be encouraged to use this pool for recruitments,” the document added.
The document also said the service conditions for employees of autonomous bodies need to be regulated and harmonised.
It noted that reforms in civil services are a continuous process and several initiatives have been taken in recent years by the present government. – PTI
What about people who are pursuing PhD or MBBS or Law?? Why is the General category always targetted. They too are born with a single brain each and struggle like the other categories. Is seems like the NITI Aayog is prepared to suffocate the General category people to death. Please do broaden up your thought process as well as the age span. The Civil services examination is in itself a vast ocean of struggles . please do not make it a do pr die situation. You are increasing the chances of student suicidal cases yourself.
Why is the General Category targetted always? The Generals are also humans each with a single brain just like the other categories. It seems like the NITI Ayog is all set to make the General category people leave the country and search for foreign places of settlement. Chances should be given to students from all fields like those pursuing Law, MBBS, PhDs as well. Please do broaden up the thought process as well as the age span.
Government is always partial in decision making . Don’t reduce the age limit just ban the general category students from all government examination
Vote UPA to save the aspirants. This NDA government since taken power is giving blow after blow to Indians. Congress was 300 times better than this demonic government
Agree with prachi mishra
I don’t feel this is a good one…what about those civil aspirants who have a long academic course of 5-6 years…like medicine and law? I suggest there should be a broad consideration taking everyone into their view point..
Indian dooms day is approaching…gear up for this…all my GM friend….get ready to lead your happy luxurious and comfortable life abroad…all our goal is to hunt abroad jobs n settle there….here after our mother land can be US ,UK Australia, Singapore etc…bon voyage in advance…
I think dooms day for India is approaching in the near future, don’t know from where the country policy makers are appointed. There should be balance in any work, 27 is too early restricting all fair chances for meritorious candidates. By the way what the country try is going to do by cutting down the age . This clearly justifies why meritorious NRI are becoming CEO of top notch American company..n I support brain drain… reservation for backward section of the society is restrictions for general merit section…upon this govt makes statement that mitigating vacancies problem in UPSC and govt jobs is tough job …I’m not supporting general category but things need to be fair …India will never develope with this kind of freebie and relaxation….god save INDIA… ?
please don’t do this . this is the last hope for indians who belongs to middle class family/poor class to get into the service and serve the Nation . someone Don’t have the support. i know that a lot of aspirants clear civil service exam after the year 27 and they get good rank and also they are very good civil servant
NITI AYOG ONLY THINKS WORSE FIR GENERAL CATEGORY,,DON’T HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY ABOUT THE AGE LIMIT OF OBC AND SC/ST CANDIDATES….SHAMELESS NITI AYOG
GO TO HELL
