New Delhi: Beyond all the talk of strategic shift, US President Donald Trump’s meeting with Pakistan Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir in the Oval Office also generated chatter about the strategic height.

Is Munir trying to be taller than he really is? The question isn’t just about his ambition, but about what appeared to be height-enhancing footwear that he wore to the meeting. Munir, who is 5’10”, was spotted wearing four-inch elevator shoes, possibly to avoid being dwarfed by the 6’3” US president.

The army chief’s shoes are buzzing on X among Indian users.

Many have pointed out that the shoes seem to be from Temu, a multi-category online marketplace known for selling heavily discounted goods directly from global manufacturers, largely in China.

“Huge embarrassment for Pakistan as Army Chief Asim Munir caught wearing height-boosting shoes from Temu during a meeting with Trump — an awkward attempt to appear taller exposed in front of world leaders,” a user wrote on X.

Another went a little further. “Three inches of Trump’s boots and two of the carpet — he licked and swallowed them both clean,” they wrote.

Some tried to explain it away. “Trump was 6’3 in his youth, but now at this age he’s probably only six feet,” read a comment.

‘Next level obsession’

Pakistani users were quick to clap back. Some wondered what Munir’s height had to do with Indians. “Next Level of obsession with Pak. And claims that the competition is over, and we are catching up with China and Japan, wrote one user.

“Bro, you guys are way too obsessed with us. You have nothing meaningful in life that you’re always discussing us,” said another.

Not everyone went the verbose route. “Indian will remain misguided forever,” wrote multimedia journalist and ghostwriter Naveed Hussain Mangi.

Others chose to mock Indian leaders.

“It’s your Army Chief who needs height increasing shoes with six inch heels,” wrote Umair Gondal, whose bio on X calls him an ‘Introspective Thinker’.

‘Man of peace’

For his meeting with Trump, which also featured Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Munir carried a polished wooden box filled with colourful stones. A White House photo captured Trump looking inside, with many interpreting the stones as a showcase of Pakistan’s mineral riches.

The discussion is said to have lasted nearly an hour and a half.

Sharif praised Trump as a “man of peace”, crediting him for making “genuine efforts” to resolve conflicts worldwide.

He added that he believed the Pakistan-US relationship would only grow stronger under Trump’s leadership. He also invited American companies to invest in Pakistan’s agriculture, IT, mining, minerals, and energy sectors.

The meeting, after several years of a tenuous relationship, came as the bilateral ties showed some improvement.
