New Delhi: C Joseph Vijay‘s film, Jana Nayagan, is set to release in the UK on 24 July, following a seven-month delay after the film finally received an A certificate from the censor board.

While the certified version will screen domestically, several international markets will get the uncut version of the film. Ahead of its overseas rollout, early numbers suggest strong audience turnout, as bookings have already crossed Rs 1 crore in the UK.

The film’s UK distributor, Ahimsa Entertainment, shared that ticket sales had opened to a huge demand. In an Instagram post, the distributor announced that tickets were live on Cineworld and that show counts had reached record levels. They called the film an emotional farewell to the star and urged fans across the UK to turn out in large numbers.

In another post on X, Ahimsa Entertainment stated that thousands of UK tickets had sold within the first hour alone, which, according to the distributor, is a testament to the craze around Vijay.

Trade platform Asian Box Office confirmed that advance bookings for the film have already surpassed Rs 1 crore.

The many hurdles of Jana Nayagan

Jana Nayagan marks Vijay’s last film, as he has now stepped into the role of Tamil Nadu CM. Originally scheduled for a Pongal release in January, the film ran into repeated certification hurdles that pushed it back by several months. Initially, it was said that the film might affect the Tamil Nadu elections. Later, the film’s troubles were compounded as some clips were leaked online.

It was only last week that KVN Productions confirmed that the CBFC had cleared the film with an A certificate.
