Three viral moments that propelled Jon Ossoff to victory

New Delhi: The loud, drawn-out “Helloooo!” that US Senator Jon Ossoff delivered as he took the stage for his victory speech in Georgia was among the first moments from election night to catch attention online.

US Senator Jon Ossoff has won re-election in Georgia, defeating Republican challenger Mike Collins in the 3 November midterm elections, securing a second six-year term in the US Senate.

A democrat, Ossoff defeated Collins, a two-term Republican congressman backed by President Donald Trump, in a closely watched contest on Tuesday night.

The 39-year-old senator has increasingly become known for his sharp, often cutting remarks about Trump. His speeches, particularly during the 2026 campaign targeting the president, have generated viral clips.

In his victory speech in Atlanta, Ossoff aimed at Trump.

“In sweeping and decisive victories, the American people have rebuked the depravity, corruption, and incompetence of the failed lame duck president, Donald J. Trump,” he said.

But this is not the first time Osoff’s criticism toward Trump went viral. Trump was the central target of his re-election campaign. His attacks on the president turned into viral moments that helped transform him into a national Democratic figure ahead of the Georgia Senate race.

Ossoff’s Viral Moments

At a campaign rally in Atlanta held on 16 August, Ossoff mocked Trump’s priorities amid the US-Israel war on Iran. Talking about Trump’s executive assistant Natalie Harp and the Qatari aircraft gifted to the US president, he said,

“He doesn’t want to do the job. He wants to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie on their apparently defenceless flying palace gifted by the Emir of Qatar.”

In the same month, speaking at a campaign alongside Democratic Senator Mark Kelly and his wife, former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, Ossoff called Trump a “draft-dodging, crook president” while defending Kelly.

“I don’t think anything illustrates the times more aptly than that the draft-dodging, crook president, who has plunged our nation recklessly into a war he knows not how to end or to win, tried to imprison this man, who embodies American heroism,” he said.

Trump had called for the arrest of Kelly and other Democratic lawmakers over a video reminding US military personnel that they are not required to follow illegal orders.

More recently, on 28 October, Ossoff slammed Trump and his family for profiting while ordinary Americans struggled with rising costs at a campaign rally with former President Barack Obama in Georgia.

“And while the crook president and his crook family rake in billions from all over the world, you pay more for everything,” he told the crowd.

He also accused the administration of driving up insurance costs, cutting Medicaid and misleading Americans about the war.

“They doubled your insurance premiums and slashed Medicaid to cut taxes for the rich. They lied us into war and spent most of the last year covering up for the world’s most famous pedophile. You saw it,” he said.

In his victory speech on Tuesday night, he turned to the work ahead, promising to fight for health coverage, lower costs, and civil rights.

“Tonight we celebrate this victory, and tomorrow we get back to work,” he said.
