New Delhi: Six years after actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, his sister Shweta Singh Kirti remembered the late actor with an emotional social media post, while fans and fan pages across Instagram marked the anniversary with tributes of their own.

Rajput was found dead at his Bandra home in Mumbai on 14 June 2020. He was 34. On the sixth anniversary of his death, Kirti shared a series of pictures and videos of the actor, including an AI-generated image of him as the Hindu god Ram. She wrote about the impact Rajput continues to have on those who admired him.

Kirti described her brother as a soul that had grown ‘larger than time’ and remembered him for his curiosity, kindness, and ability to inspire people. The message focused on the way he lived rather than the circumstances of his death.

Her tribute quickly found its way across fan pages, many of which reposted her message alongside photographs, film clips, and personal memories of the actor.

Among them was Instagram creator and actor Aanchal Tejwani, who recalled the moment she first heard the news of the actor’s death six years ago.

“I still remember that day so clearly. I was watching the BTS concert when a fan messaged me, ‘Sushant sir passed away,’” she wrote in the caption. “I stared at the message for so long because I just couldn’t process it. It didn’t feel real. I felt frozen.”

Tributes pour in

Other fan and entertainment pages focused on the actor’s legacy. “Some stars leave the screen, but never leave our hearts,” wrote the handle @indians.

Entertainment portal GlamSham described Rajput as ‘gone too soon, but never forgotten’, adding that he continues to live on through his performances, inspiring journey, and ‘boundless curiosity’.

Many of the posts revisited not only Rajput’s films but also old interviews, photographs, and videos in which he spoke about astronomy, books, science, and his ambitions beyond cinema. Several fan accounts reposted clips from Pavitra Rishta, the television show that made him a household name before he moved to films.

Rajput made his Hindi film debut with Kai Po Che! in 2013 and went on to star in films including Shuddh Desi Romance (2013), Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! (2015), MS Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016), Kedarnath (2018), and Chhichhore (2019). His final film, Dil Bechara (2020), was released after his death.

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
