New Delhi: People ordered an average of 1,794 sabudana (sago) dishes every hour on Swiggy during the October 17-18, which was Navratri weekend. According to data shared by the food delivery platform, the demand for traditional sweets rose 36.4 per cent over a comparable festive period last year, with the rasgulla emerging as the most-ordered sweet.
Sabudana dishes emerged as the highest ordered items amongst vrat (fasting) favorites nationwide, followed by Navratri VratThalis, Singhara-based preparations, Kuttu and Rajgira specialties. Other fasting favourites included Samak rice and makhana dishes.
A customer in Noida placed a vrat thali order worth Rs 11,072, while a consumer in Mumbai spent Rs 9,870 on assorted mithais (sweets) and ‘Coffee Rasgulla Tiramisu’. While major metros like Mumbai and Bengaluru led the demand for Sabudana Khichdi, the platform also observed strong demand in Pune and Jaipur for the same.
“Complete festive meal combinations also saw substantial adoption. Navratri Special Vrat Thalis were the favourites with Navratri Vrat Thali with Singhara Poori leading the race. Rajgira Poori and Aloo Hing three-course thalis also featured amongst the sought-after thalis nationwide, with Delhi, Bengaluru, Gurgaon, and Noida driving the highest demand,” said the press release by Swiggy.
The Noida customer’s Rs 11,072 fasting feast included 13 units of Navratri Special Vrat Thali with Singhara Poori, making it one of the biggest vrat orders in the country on the October 17-18 weekend.
