New Delhi: Actor Ranveer Singh’s father, Jagjit Singh Bhavnani, has submitted a plea regarding the ongoing dispute over Don 3, challenging Excel Entertainment’s ₹45 crore claim before the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA).

Bhavnani met IMPPA on Tuesday. The association’s legal team will review the documents and evidence before deciding on a fair resolution. IMPPA president Abhay Sinha confirmed the meeting and said the association would take the next step after examining the plea, according to a report by India Today.

On 25 May, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issued a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer Singh following his reported exit from Don 3. The controversy emerged after Ranveer reportedly walked out of the film over “creative differences” with the makers.

Don 3 was announced in August 2023, with Ranveer introduced as the next-generation Don.

During a press conference, FWICE chief Ashoke Pandit claimed that Farhan Akhtar had suffered losses of nearly ₹45 crore because of the situation.

FWICE withdrew the non-cooperation directive on 3 June, eight days after it was issued. Earlier, the Producers Guild of India had released a statement urging all parties to resolve their differences, after reports emerged that Ranveer had sent a legal notice to FWICE over its stance. The directive was withdrawn following intervention by IMPPA, the Producers Guild of India and the Cine & TV Artistes Association (CINTAA).

Addressing a press conference, FWICE president and filmmaker BN Tiwari expressed support for the actor and said that the film industry stood with him.

“On behalf of the Federation, we would like to request Ranveer Singh to come and sit with us. This film industry family is yours, ours, everyone’s,” he said. “No one has won or lost in this matter. Our legal department will respond to his legal notice,” he added.

The dispute has now moved to IMPPA, which is examining both sides’ claims and documents in an attempt to broker a resolution.
