New Delhi: New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and his wife Rama Duwaji joined the Knicks NBA championship parade on Thursday.
The Mayor’s classic suit and tie got a fashionable upgrade as he wore the Knicks jersey over his formal white shirt and under his black suit, pairing it with a colour-coordinated tie. New York’s First Lady, on the other hand, wore a multicoloured one-shoulder top made using three Knicks T-shirts tied together. She paired it with matching bright orange pompom earrings and a black skirt, making a very bold and loud statement with her outfit.
This is Mamdani’s second time repping the Knicks jersey, drawing praise and support from the general public both times. The Mayor definitely knows how to connect with and win over his people. The devil works hard but his PR team works harder.

Praise and trolling
The responses to their outfits on social media have been mixed. The majority of the comments seem to be praising the outfit choices. Many called Rama iconic, saying that her outfit was a cultural nod to NYC’s history and a homage to the city’s working class and street culture.
“Our mayor being married to a baddie is very NY 2026,” read a comment on Instagram.
“She’s perfect, I know he tired of wearing that suit jacket everywhere,” said another user.
There were many others who criticised the outfit and the pair in general, flooding comment sections with hate. On X, a user wrote, “‘High fashion’? Looks like a 5th grader made it from watching a Youtube video.”
“Did Zodumb officially announce that he wants to change the name of the team from the Knicks to the New York Commies for 2027 yet?” wrote a person on YouTube, hinting at Rama’s old controversial tweets.
