New Delhi: Actor Rakhi Sawant has registered a protest against excessive police action at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar in a manner only she can. Speaking to the media on Thursday, the 47-year-old pulled out a sanitary pad with red paint on it and said she would throw it at anyone beating students.
“Those who are beating, torturing students, I will throw this at them. Why? You must resign. If you can’t provide good education, can’t improve the future of the country… I have given my vote, I throw this at your face,” she said in Hindi.
The actor appeared in a blonde wig, red contact lenses, and a uniform from the reality show Lock Upp.
During the press interaction, she also commented on education, employment, and women’s rights. When a cameraman asked her an unrelated, funny question, she refused to engage, stating that she would discuss the matter seriously.
“We have neither jobs nor education, nor anything else,” she said. “Achhe din aaye hain, achhe din aaye hain, kiske achhe din aaye? Mantriyon ke (Only the ministers are enjoying ‘achhe din’).”
On Wednesday, the actor posted a reel where she wept, asking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for accountability.
“Modiji what’s wrong with you? You’re doing lathee-charge on kids, do you have no mercy? What will you do with the chair? What are you doing Modiji?” she asked in the video.
‘We need you Rakhi’
Sawant is a favourite among Gen Z for her humour and quick-wittedness. Ever since the CJP protests began, youth on social media called for her to show up at Jantar Mantar. And now, placards at the protest site state a more audacious goal.
“We want Rakhi Sawant as our PM,” reads a placard in a reel uploaded by Zaish Malik Friday.
It’s not the first of its kind. Gen Z firmly believes that only Sawant can fix their problems now.
“Where are you Rakhiji? We need you,” said Yash Kadu and Sukanya in a reel posted Wednesday.
Sawant responded that she plans to join the protesters soon.
“I ll come soon , I have a contract and I am shooting for it , once I wrap it I ll be there for u all,” she commented.
