New Delhi: NVIDIA has launched the Open Secure AI Alliance, a coalition of industry leaders that will develop new techniques and tools to safeguard software and AI agents.
“Cybersecurity is among the top three beneficiaries of open source software. The Open Secure AI Alliance — building on the leadership of the Linux Foundation’s Akrites initiative and OpenSSF community work — will work to remediate and disclose vulnerabilities using open technologies,” said the company’s press release, published Monday.
The alliance has 37 companies as inaugural partners, including Adobe, Microsoft, Dell Technologies, and SpaceXAI. It seeks to ensure that defenders of AI models everywhere have open, frontier tools they can control. The NVIDIA press release stated that the Hugging Face security incident played a role in the development of the coalition.
“The recent Hugging Face security incident delivered a clear reminder: cyber defenders need open, frontier agentic systems for self-defense… When defenders cannot inspect, adapt and run advanced AI on their own infrastructure, their ability to respond is constrained at exactly the moment speed matters most,” the article said.
Nadella, Dell as founding members
In a quote retweet of the NVIDIA announcement, founder Jensen Huang repeated the argument.
“During the Hugging Face incident, closed AI blocked essential forensics. An open-weight frontier model helped contain the intrusion,” Huang posted.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella commented that he was “glad to join this important alliance to advance AI security across the frontier ecosystem”. On 24 July, he shared a statement about the importance of open-weight models on X.
“Open-weight models are essential to a healthy AI ecosystem. Together with others across our industry, we are outlining a path for open-weight models to strengthen American competitiveness and expand economic opportunity, while protecting national security,” Nadella wrote.
Now, Michael Dell, founder and CEO of Dell Technologies, has also announced that he is joining the Open Secure AI Alliance as a founding member.
“Defenders need open tools, collaboration, and transparency to secure AI agents and systems. And customers want the ability to choose the best open or closed models,” Dell wrote.
