Hanuman Ansh based on Neem Karoli Baba is more profitable than Yash’s Toxic

Hanuman Ansh revolves around the early life of Laxman Das, who left his home at the age of 13 after his mother died and became Neem Karoli Baba.

New Delhi: Hanuman Ansh has become a more profitable film than the multi-starrer Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups. The film is based on the life of Neem Karoli Baba and was made on a budget of Rs 2 crore. It has earned nearly Rs 50 crore so far worldwide, as reported by the Indian Express. In India alone, the movie’s earnings are above Rs 45 crore. 

Toxic, on the other hand, was made on a budget of Rs 500 crore and is yet to recover its budget, with the film collecting nearly Rs 300 crore worldwide.

On Day 6 of its release, Toxic collected Rs 4.4 crore, whereas Hanuman Ansh collected Rs 5.5 crore in India on its Day 25. Toxic started with 24,579 shows across India on Day 1, but by Day 6, the number had decreased to 13,400 shows, a nearly 45.4 per cent decline in less than a week.

Hanuman Ansh followed a different trajectory. At the time of its release on 7 August, the film got a few hundred screens, but the number of shows has now increased to more than 6,500 across India.

A word-of-mouth popularity

What made Hanuman Ansh different and more successful than Toxic is hard to determine because the former wasn’t marketed as much and seems to have been shared among viewers through word of mouth. The cast of the film, Rajiv Mishra, Rishikesh Dubey, Hunny Bakshi and Rishi Pathak, do not have proper IMDb pages. The only two actors who have film credits in their name are Chand K Anand, who previously worked in Homebound (2025) and Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! (2008) and Purnima Tiwari, who has worked in the TV series Pyaar Kii Raahein. Hanuman Ansh was directed by Vishal Chaturvedi, who also has no popular previous work under his name. 

The story follows the early life of Laxman Das, who left home at age 13 after his mother died. The film shows the transformation of a 13-year-old boy into Neem Karoli Baba. His transformation is shown through his experiences, his connection with Hanuman and the miracles surrounding his life. The film also tells the story of the formation of Kainchi Dham, the ashram associated with Neem Karoli Baba.
