Zurich: Taking the baton from India, Switzerland is set to host the next AI summit in 2027, officially named the “Geneva AI Summit,” Swiss government officials confirmed on 23 June. The name of the summit was chosen to align with the ideals of inclusivity and neutrality.

Speaking to ThePrint in Zurich, Katharina Frey, senior advisor for artificial intelligence and emerging tech at the State Secretariat, Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, said that multiple departments are working together to successfully organise the AI summit in Geneva.

She added that the Swiss government expects to organize a curtain-raiser event in the first week of July to unveil the summit’s theme and logistical details.

“We have decided that the official name of the AI summit here will be the ‘Geneva AI Summit’. It truly aligns with our core values of neutrality,” Frey said.

In February 2026, while attending the India AI Impact Summit hosted by the Indian government at Delhi’s Bharat Mandapam, Swiss President Guy Parmelin announced his interest in hosting the next summit.

“Switzerland intends to work closely with partners from academia and the private sector. Hosting the AI summit will strengthen Switzerland’s position in digital policy and reaffirm its active commitment to a rules‑based international order,” a statement issued by the Swiss government in February 2025 read.

It added, “It will also consolidate the country’s role as a leading centre for innovation and research in artificial intelligence.”

During the Leaders’ Plenary session at the India summit, Parmelin said that Switzerland was “ready and committed” to host the next AI summit.

“It will bring together the world’s diversity of voices, expertise, and ambitions in a city that has long been the crossroads of global cooperation. India teaches through its ancient wisdom that progress is a collective endeavour. Switzerland embraces this vision, that innovation must serve humanity,” officials said.

Swiss federal officials added that the 2027 summit will offer Geneva an important platform to “highlight the importance of international law and fundamental rights in the development and deployment of AI.”

“It will also help generate momentum among businesses, civil society and researchers promoting innovation, deepening exchanges and showcasing the opportunities that AI offers across all areas of Swiss society,” a Swiss government statement read.
