New Delhi: Fans can now officially celebrate Diljit Dosanjh Day, at least in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles City Council has declared 6 January 2027 as “Diljit Dosanjh Day.”
The Punjabi singer, who is currently in the US for his Dil-Luminati Tour, was presented with the resolution by Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez on 19 June for his significant contributions to Punjabi music and for enhancing South Asian representation in mainstream American culture.
In a video of the interaction, Dosanjh can be heard saying he was “speechless” as he processed the resolution, before singing a line from his 2009 song ‘Los Angeles.’
His team shared the resolution in an Instagram post with the caption, “Big News.”
Fans and fellow Punjabi musicians congratulated the singer on the achievement. One Instagram comment read that the resolution itself was the statement.
One X user shared a video of the resolution with the caption: “Breaking records each day. Diljit Dosanjh’s journey from regional folk music to global stages!”
The declaration has also been received warmly across the Punjabi community, who view it as a proud moment, a testament to Dosanjh’s growing global influence.

Rise to stardom
Dosanjh began as a devotional singer, performing at kirtans and gurdwaras. He released his debut album, Smile, in 2005, which catapulted him into local stardom in Punjab. Over the years, Dosanjh has released 13 more albums and cemented himself as a proud son of Punjab and a global sensation.
In 2023, Dosanjh made history as the first Punjabi artist to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Elle India reported that his latest Dil-Luminati tours broke records for ticket sales for an Indian artist globally.
Apart from singing, Dosanjh is also a well-known actor in Bollywood, with his first-ever Hindi film role in the 2016 crime thriller Udta Punjab, earning him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.
His latest silver screen venture is Imtiaz Ali’s Main Vaapas Aaunga, a romantic drama, which hit theatres on 12 June.
