New Delhi: Actor Salman Khan has won his legal battle against the makers of the film Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy, which allegedly revolves around the 1998 Blackbuck poaching case.
The Delhi High Court Monday directed the makers to remove the film’s teaser from all platforms. Stating that a person’s reputation is “built with great effort, and once lost, is lost forever”, the court ordered that the promotional material, including the teaser, be taken down within 24 hours.
If the makers refuse to take down the material, the platforms streaming the content will be directed to remove it.
Senior counsel Ravi Prakash, along with advocates Nizamuddin Pasha, Sidharth Kaushik, Astu Khandelwal, and Charu Sharma, represented Khan. They were joined by advocates Parag Khandhar, Chandrima Mitra, Krishan Kumar, Tapan Radkar, and Zara Dhanbhoora.
The case traces back to the alleged 1998 Blackbuck poaching incident, when Khan and other actors, including Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, and Karisma Kapoor, were accused of killing the endangered animal in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. This happened during the filming of Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999).
The Bishnoi community filed a complaint against Khan at the time, leading to his arrest that year, though he was later released on bail. Two decades later, a trial court sentenced him to five years in prison, but a Sessions Court subsequently granted the actor bail. In 2022, the Rajasthan High Court allowed the case to be transferred.
Separately, in December 2025, the actor approached the Delhi High Court seeking a permanent injunction to protect his personality and publicity rights from misuse. His plea pointed to unauthorised use of his name, photographs, film stills, and likeness, including morphed content and AI-generated videos, images, and audio clips, created for commercial or personal gain without his consent.
Earlier this year, producer Amit Jani announced Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy by launching the film’s poster on 29 May. It showed a man resembling Khan holding a rifle and wearing his Firoza bracelet. The film has been shot in Sambhal, Moradabad, and other cities of Uttar Pradesh, and explores the feud between Khan and the gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
‘Not based on Salman’
Jani, who had earlier produced Udaipur Files (2025), shared the legal notice sent by Khan’s team online.
“Salman has started threatening people associated with the movie Kala Hiran by sending them notices,” he told Aaj Tak.
In an interview, Jani shared that the film is based on the struggle of the Bishnoi community, who did not even have money for lawyers while Khan’s legal team was arriving with helicopters.
“This film does not glorify or demean Salman Khan’s image, and it is not Salman’s biopic,” he said.
