New Delhi: Next time you order coffee in Delhi airport’s Terminal 3, you might just be served by a robotic arm. Operated by the GMR group, the Delhi airport recently announced the launch of a fully automated, robotic cafe through a post on X.

“There’s something new brewing at Delhi Airport, and it’s robotic!” the post reads. At Gate 42, the robot will be able to prepare orders in just 2 to 3 minutes.

The white robotic arm, enclosed behind a glass screen, can be seen grooving to music before serving coffee to the customer. The video shows the arm placing an empty cup under the coffee machine, waiting for the coffee to be dispensed, before picking it up and placing it in front of a window for the customer to take.

Cashless airport pick-me-up

The kiosk has a small screen facing the customer for them to place their order. The entire brewing and serving operation is carried out sans human assistance.

Another video of the cafe, posted on Instagram, shows the arm serving ice cream to a customer. Like in the case of coffee, the robotic arm picks up a paper cup from a stack, positions it under the soft-serve machine behind it, and places it on the counter once the ice cream has been dispensed. An automated window on the counter, big enough for a customer’s hand to pass, opens up, allowing him to pick up his order.

Apart from ice cream and coffee, the kiosk serves flavoured milk, tea, and snacks.

“It also waves and dances when free”, the Instagram user added.

Cashless payments and orders ready in a matter of minutes are part of the cafe’s seamless experience, Delhi Airport added on Instagram.

“Simply order, pay cashlessly and enjoy your next airport pick-me-up!” the caption reads.

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
