Mumbai, Oct 7 (PTI) Comedian Sumukhi Suresh’s first Netflix stand-up special “Hoemonal” will premiere on the streaming platform on October 14, the OTT platform has announced.
In “Hoemonal”, Suresh draws on her experiences of dating, relationships, body image and questions around motherhood to explore the awkward and rarely discussed aspects of adulthood.
Suresh developed the special from her experiences of being a woman in her 30s, including hormonal changes, singlehood, changing priorities and societal expectations.
The show has travelled across India and overseas, including a run at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Suresh said she wrote the show in 2021 with the intention of being honest on stage and accepting whatever response came from audiences.
“When I wrote Hoemonal in 2021, all I wanted was to be my honest self on stage and accept whatever response I got from the audience. Never expected the response to be laughter along with anger, tears, and truckloads of hugs,” she said.
As she toured with the show, Suresh said she realised its themes extended beyond her own experiences.
“I felt like I performed a RomCom on stage. As I toured with the show, I understood that being Hoemonal is not my isolated story but everyone’s experience,” she said.
Suresh said the special also reflects the contrast between being raised conservatively and navigating dating and relationships as an adult, while dealing with hormonal changes.
“And now to know that this extremely personal piece is going to be on Netflix? I am crying, and it’s not PMS (or maybe it is. Let me check),” she added. PTI RB RB
