What is Claude Design? Anthropic’s new AI tool that can turn prompts into professional visuals

The launch of Claude Design has revived concerns about AI replacing humans, with some fearing that the new tool could replace professional designers.

New Delhi: Describe what you want — prototypes, slides, or one-pagers — and Claude Design will make it for you. All you need to do is chat with the new AI tool launched by Anthropic.

Powered by Claude Opus 4.7, Claude Design can turn simple text prompts into prototypes, presentations, and marketing visuals in seconds. Everything can be refined through online comments, direct edits, or custom sliders, making the process guided and intuitive.

Claude Design allows users — even those with no background or experience in design — to create visual content, including prototypes, presentations, mock-ups, and marketing assets.

Users no longer need to open a design app to make graphics from scratch. They can simply type or upload any image or file, and Claude Design will deliver.

“Describe what you want, and Claude builds the first version. Refine through conversation, inline comments, direct edits, or custom sliders. Export to Canva as a PDF or PPTX, or hand off to Claude Code when the design feels right,” Claude wrote on X on Friday, alongside a video demonstrating how the AI tool works.

How it works

Claude Design is an experimental product that is available in research preview for Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers.

In a blogpost, Anthropic detailed how the AI tool can adapt to a company’s design philosophy and deliver results accordingly.

“Claude Design gives designers room to explore widely and everyone else a way to produce visual work. Describe what you need, and Claude builds a first version. From there, you refine through conversation, inline comments, direct edits, or custom sliders (made by Claude) until it’s right. When given access, Claude can also apply your team’s design system to every project automatically, so the output is consistent with the rest of your company’s designs,” the blog read.

After entering commands and text instructions, the first draft is generated in seconds. Users can then comment on specific elements, edit text directly, or use adjustment controls to tweak spacing, colour, and layout in real time. Claude can also apply these changes across the entire design.

Users can then export their designs to platforms like Canva or save them as PDFs, PPTX files, or standalone HTML. There is also a direct handoff to Claude Code, allowing designs to be converted into production-ready code while keeping the workflow within Anthropic’s ecosystem.

Canva is one of the collaborators on this project. On the partnership, Canva co-founder and CEO Melanie Perkins said, “We are excited to build on our collaboration with Claude, making it seamless for people to bring ideas and drafts from Claude Design into Canva, where they instantly become fully editable and collaborative designs ready to refine, share, and publish.”

The concerns

With this new development, the concerns about AI replacing humans have resurfaced.

“Anthropic is growing at a massive scale. Growth is generally a good thing, but I’m not sure why it feels like it shouldn’t come at the cost of people’s jobs. Ideally, we should grow at a pace that creates more jobs, not eliminates them. This concern keeps coming to mind—otherwise, these models are good for humanity,” wrote one user on X.

“POV: You’re celebrating Claude’s new features while knowing it’s the same tool that’s going to replace you by the end of 2026,” another said.

Some described the new tool as “amazing”.

“Claude Design is just amazing—I one-shotted this,” wrote a user.
