New Delhi: Singer Arijit Singh, whose new song Yeh Awarapan has created a lot of buzz of his comeback, is not returning to playback singing, his manager has confirmed to ThePrint.
The song, from Emraan Hashmi-starrer Awarapan 2, marks Singh’s first project months after he announced his retirement from playback assignments.
When ThePrint reached out to Singh’s team, they confirmed that it isn’t true.
“He is just completing the projects that were finalised before the retirement was announced. Arijit isn’t doing a comeback in playback singing. These are old commitments,” his manager said.
Composed by Amaal Malik and penned by Rashmi Virag, Yeh Awarapan is set to release on July 21 across music streaming platforms.
The song reunites Singh and Vishesh Bhatt, who is producing of Awarapan 2 under the banner of Vishesh Films, after their last collaboration on the track Pal from the 2018 film Jalebi. Previously, Singh has collaborated with Vishesh Films for songs like Tum Hi Ho from Aashiqui 2, Muskurane from CityLights, the title tracks of Khamoshiyan and Hamari Adhuri Kahani.
Awarapan 2 is directed by Nitin Kakkar and written by Bilal Siddiqui. It is scheduled to hit theatres next month, on August 14. Along with Hashmi, the film also stars Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi and Atul Kumar.
Singh announced his retirement from playback singing in January this year by sharing a note on Instagram. In his post, he wrote, “Hello, Happy new year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much of love all these years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not gonna be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey.”
