New Delhi: The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) report released today shows that the world is failing to meet its agreed goals for sustainable development, UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ said Friday.
The report, titled SDG Report 2024, finds that only 17 percent of the SDG targets are on track, with progress on more than a third of the targets having stalled or even regressed.
It warns that the world’s failure to address pressing global challenges, including peace, climate change, and international finance, is undermining development and making it more difficult to achieve what is possible for future generations. The report calls for urgent and accelerated action to address these challenges and ensure that the SDG targets are met.
It makes several recommendations for countries, including putting forward ambitious national climate action plans, investing in digital connectivity, and improving access to finance. The report also urges the international community to step up efforts to support developing countries, including by delivering the SDG Stimulus and scaling up multilateral development banks.
