(Reuters) – The U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) said on Sunday that potential Tropical Cyclone Eighteen has a near 100% chance of becoming a cyclone in the next 48 hours.
The system is currently about 325 miles (520 km) south of Kingston, Jamaica, packing maximum sustained winds of 35 mph (55 kmh).
“This system is expected to become a tropical storm on Monday with additional strengthening forecast after that time,” the Miami-based forecaster said.
“The system could be near hurricane intensity as it passes near the Cayman Islands in the northwestern Caribbean.”
