India’s secretary of renewable energy sets ambitious green hydrogen goal

Bhupinder Singh Bhalla spoke about India's ambitious target of producing 5 million tonnes of annual green hydrogen by 2030, and the steps that will be taken to achieve this goal.

New Delhi: Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, Secretary, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Government of India, recently addressed the World Hydrogen Summit 2024 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, delivering a powerful keynote address that highlighted India’s strategic vision and capabilities in the domain of renewable energy and green hydrogen production, a PIB press release stated.

He spoke about India’s ambitious target of producing 5 million tonnes of annual green hydrogen by 2030, and the steps that will be taken to achieve this goal. Secretary Bhalla highlighted the country’s strong commitment to research and development (R&D) initiatives in the green hydrogen sector, as well as the availability of skilled engineers who can execute projects with efficiency and precision.

He also spoke about the importance of integrating renewable energy sources into the national energy mix, noting that this can enhance grid stability and reliability while also optimizing efficiency and minimizing the need for long-distance transportation and storage of hydrogen.

The Secretary’s keynote address at the World Hydrogen Summit 2024 reflects India’s commitment to and vision for sustainable development, one that is based on innovation, collaboration, and capacity-building. The message he delivered highlights the country’s potential to play a pivotal role in the global energy transition and support the growth of a green economy.
