Hurricane warning issued for Oscar in Bahamas, NHC says

(Reuters) – The government of the Bahamas has issued a hurricane warning for Tropical Storm Oscar which formed east of the Turks and Caicos islands, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said on Saturday.

Oscar is located about 165 miles (265 km) east-southeast of the Bahamas and about 470 miles east of Camaguey city in Cuba, packing maximum sustained winds of 80 miles per hour, according to the NHC.

The government of Cuba has issued a Hurricane Watch for the

provinces of Guantanamo, Holguin, and Las Tunas, the forecaster added.

Locally heavy rainfall is possible across the Turks and Caicos islands and the southeastern Bahamas later on Saturday which are expected to spread to eastern Cuba on Sunday, the latest advisory said.
