New Delhi: The Sunday firing incident involving Tiger Shroff has reignited the debate around celebrity safety and law and order in Mumbai. From actors Shatrughan Sinha and Ranvir Shorey to filmmaker Rahul Dholakia and politicians Devendra Fadnavis, Eknath Shinde and Sanjay Raut, several have expressed concern over the incident. The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has also questioned the repeated attacks targeting Bollywood celebrities.

“Today Tiger Shroff, who’s next?” the association asked.

AICWA said the incident was not isolated, pointing to a series of attacks targeting Bollywood personalities in recent years. Shots were fired outside Salman Khan’s residence in Bandra, actor Saif Ali Khan was stabbed at his Bandra home, and shots were fired outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Juhu. Comedian Kapil Sharma’s cafe has also been attacked repeatedly.

“Despite repeated incidents, the government and the police have failed to stop these attacks and to protect the people of Bollywood. Gangsters have openly claimed responsibility in earlier cases, yet the network continues to operate. Statements are not enough. Bollywood needs real protection,” the statement read.

Actor Shatrughan Sinha called the incident shocking, describing Tiger as a much-loved star. He added that the actor was fortunate to escape unharmed.

“Yesterday’s shocking, worrying attacks, threats, targeting & firing on most loved star Tiger Shroff worthy son of the most worthy father Jackie shroff. In fact Tiger was lucky to go unhurt, but his poor driver was injured badly,” he wrote in a post on X.

The 36-year-old actor was reportedly in a car leaving a football club in Juhu on Sunday evening, when shots were fired. His driver was injured in the incident.

Actor Ranvir Shorey also condemned the attack and called for strict action against those responsible. “Shocking, and disgusting! Hope everyone is safe, No mercy for the perpetrators…This is outrageous!” he wrote.

Filmmaker Rahul Dholakia questioned the state of law and order in Mumbai, arguing that criminals were operating with impunity while innocent people faced consequences.

“A gangster who is in Jail openly threatens Bollywood and shoots at will -and we just allow fear to spread ! Who is answerable ?? @AmitShah @Dev_Fadnavis could u please address the state / city / resident of Juhu?? Or are you still worried about harmless flag walkers! #TigerShroff #shootinginJuhu,” he wrote.

After Tiger Shroff was discharged from the hospital and returned home, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited him at his residence. Shinde said Mumbai Police Commissioner had formed several teams to track down and apprehend those responsible for the shooting.

“I spoke with Tiger Shroff, as well as his father, Jackie Shroff. I told Tiger not to worry—the government is with him; there is no need for concern. We will review the security arrangements for all celebrities, and the government is fully committed to ensuring their safety. If anyone tries to intimidate or threaten others, the police and the government will not spare them,” he said.

Meanwhile, opposition leader Sanjay Raut blamed the state government for what he described as ‘jungle raaj’, questioning Devendra Fadnavis, who holds the Home portfolio, over the deteriorating law and order situation.

“Devendra Fadnavis is the Home Minister of this state. He is also Chief Minister, but the responsibility for maintaining law and order lies with him. In Mumbai, we have witnessed brazen incidents, including an attack on Salman Khan, the murder of Baba Siddique, and the killing of our Shiv Sena worker, Pradeep Purnekar, in Thane. Just yesterday, shots were fired at Tiger Shroff. This is jungle raj (lawlessness). When such a state of lawlessness prevails, the government should be dismissed and President’s Rule imposed,” he said.

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
