New Delhi: Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become the fastest film to cross $900 million at the box office in the United States and Canada. It reached the mark 36 days after its release, breaking the 50-day record held by the 2015 film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The Tom Holland-starrer earned an estimated $18 million during the 4-6  September weekend, celebrating its position at the top of the box-office chart for the sixth consecutive weekend.

The film’s collection in North America now stands at approximately $923 million. It is only the second film to cross $900 million in the two countries.

The record is still firmly held by JJ Abrams’ Star Wars sequel at $936.7 million.

Brand New Day is now around $14 million short of breaking that record. It has already surpassed Avengers: Endgame (2019), which earned $858.4 million in the US and Canada.

The latest Spider-Man film has earned approximately $1.49 billion from the rest of the world, taking its worldwide collection to $2.4 billion. It is the third-highest-grossing film of all time globally, behind Avatar (2009) and Avengers: Endgame.

It is also the highest-grossing Spider-Man film, overtaking Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), which earned $1.92 billion worldwide. Brand New Day has collected $55.7 million in India so far.

Released on 31 July, the film opened with $360 million in North America, the biggest opening weekend in box-office history. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige described it as “a truly phenomenal opening.” It earned approximately $145 million in its second weekend, the third-highest second-weekend collection ever.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Brand New Day is Holland’s fourth solo film as Peter Parker. It also stars Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal and Mark Ruffalo.

The film picks up after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which Doctor Strange’s spell made the world forget that Peter Parker existed. Parker is living alone and continuing to protect New York as Spider-Man when his powers begin to change.

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
