New Delhi: Lyricist Kumaar has shared that Shah Rukh Khan is particular about ensuring that his film’s song lyrics reflect his age and persona. Speaking about ‘Tu Mil Jaaye’, released on 2 November from Khan’s upcoming film King, Kumaar said the actor made sure the lyrics did not sound as though they were written for a teenager.
Kumaar, who has previously worked with Khan on songs such as ‘Jhoome Jo Pathaan’ for the 2022 film Pathaan, told Variety India that the actor is closely involved in ensuring that the lyrics suit his personality.
“He knows he is 61 and the songs should reflect that. I understand that the lyrics written for Shah Rukh Khan need to align with his personality and charisma. If you are confused, he will ask, ‘Hero, tujhe kya achha lag raha hai (Hero, what do you like best)?’ He is extremely generous with compliments and listens patiently to suggestions,” he said.
Kumaar also described Khan as someone who is ahead of his time and keeps himself updated with changing trends.
“He reads a lot, is updated on trends and always inspires me,” he said.
The song features Khan and Deepika Padukone, with Arijit Singh and Madhubanti Bagchi lending their voices to the romantic track. Composed by Sachin-Jigar, it also features a rap verse by Ed Sheeran, marking the singer’s Bollywood debut.
The song crossed 36 million views within 24 hours of its release, making it the most-watched song from an Indian film in a single day. It has since crossed 60 million views across platforms. With this, Khan surpassed his own record set by ‘Zinda Banda’ from Jawan (2023), which garnered 34.6 million views in its first 24 hours.
The film has a star-studded cast, including Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Abhay Verma, Jackie Shroff, Arshad Warsi, Jaideep Ahlawat, Rani Mukerji and Suhana Khan. King is scheduled to release in theatres on 24 December.
