New Delhi: British pop star Ed Sheeran has shared how he and Shah Rukh Khan ticked off two important tasks together in one night. Sheeran wrote and recorded his verse for ‘Tu Mil Jaaye’, a song from Khan’s upcoming film King, while SRK shot a cameo for Sheeran’s ‘Sapphire’ music video.
“When I first met Shah Rukh, he said I must make a song to be in his next movie and also be my first Bollywood song,” Sheeran wrote in an Instagram post on November 3.
‘Tu Mil Jaaye’ was released on Khan’s 61st birthday on Monday. The song features Khan and Deepika Padukone, with Arijit Singh and Madhubanti Bagchi lending their voices to the romantic track. Composed by Sachin-Jigar, it also features a rap verse by Sheeran.
King marks Sheeran’s Bollywood debut. Recalling his visit to SRK’s home, Mannat, for Khan’s cameo in ‘Sapphire’, Sheeran said the actor introduced him to the film’s composers, Sachin-Jigar, and he recorded his verse that same night.
“We’ve got to know each other over the years and I love him. Last time I was [in] India I went to his house to get him to shoot a cameo in the Sapphire music video for me and @arijitsingh. He introduced me to @sachinjigar that day and I wrote and recorded my verse for Tu Mil Jaaye for his movie King that night,” Sheeran wrote. “I love that Arijit is singing on it with me too, all my favourite people on one project.”

A record-breaking song
‘Tu Mil Jaaye’ crossed 36.3 million views on YouTube within 24 hours of its release, reportedly making it the most-watched Indian film song on the platform in a single day. It also crossed 60 million views across platforms. With this, Khan broke his own record set by ‘Zinda Banda’ from Jawan (2023), which garnered 34.6 million YouTube views in its first 24 hours.
The music video shows Khan and Deepika Padukone romancing each other in scenic locations along with glimpses of the film’s action sequences.
“Yeh daur ishq ka naseeb waalon ko milta hai… Jahan barood ki khushboo mein gulaab khilta hai… Of love and other battles… This December,” Khan wrote while sharing the music video on Instagram. (This era of love is only for the fortunate… Where a rose blooms amid the smell of gunpowder.)
Directed by Siddharth Anand, King boasts a star-studded cast, including Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Abhay Verma, Jackie Shroff, Arshad Warsi, Jaideep Ahlawat, Rani Mukerji and Suhana Khan. The action-thriller is scheduled to release in theatres on December 24.
