New Delhi: After making waves with her new avatar in Netflix’s Maa Behan, Madhuri Dixit is set to host Kaun Banega Crorepati’s Marathi version, Kon Honar Crorepati.
“I’m excited to take on this journey and bring you a game show that has always been about knowledge, dreams and possibilities,” she wrote while announcing the show.
In a clip for the show, Dixit is seen in traditional Marathi attire, walking on a light pathway. The last season of the show was hosted by Sachin Khedekar, who also hosted its first two seasons but was later replaced by Swapnil Joshi and Mahesh Manjrekar. The show was first telecast on ETV Marathi and later on Sony TV. Dixit’s version will also be available to stream on SonyLIV.
Dixit’s entry into Marathi television is also part of a bigger slate announced by Sony Entertainment India. The media powerhouse announced earlier this week that Ajay Devgn is going to host Crime Patrol, while cricketer Rohit Sharma will soon be debuting his entertainment show.
But Dixit’s association with television goes back more than two decades. Since her return to Mumbai, the 59-year-old has been gradually taking on roles as a host, judge and mentor beyond her film career. Dixit has also previously co-hosted a cookery show with Chef Sanjeev Kapoor in 2011, where they also served as the main judges of the show.
Her first foray into hosting came with the matchmaking show Kahin Na Kahin Koi Hai in 2002. The show was centred around couples searching for true love in an arranged marriage setup. After photographs were exchanged and the families approved, things moved on to the stage, with Dixit serving as the communicator between them and explaining the proceedings to the audience.
The actor also appeared as a judge on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (2009–2014), Dance Deewane (2018–present), Dance Deewane Junior (2022) and The Fame Game (2022).
