New Delhi: Actor Ranveer Singh seems to be everyone’s favourite these days. After filmmaker and FWICE representative Ashoke Pandit publicly backed him amid the recent controversy with the federation, businessman and former IPL chairman Lalit Modi has now claimed that the actor once expressed interest in portraying Modi in a biopic.
Modi revealed in a recent interview with ANI’s Smita Prakash that a film based on his life is currently in the scripting stage. While several actors have reportedly shown interest in playing him on screen, he recalled a meeting with Singh in London, where the actor was eager to understand his journey.
“Ranveer Singh met me a few years ago. He wanted to play me in a movie, Lalit Modi as commissioner,” Modi said Thursday. “Two years ago, we sat here, right in this house, and we talked about him playing me. But we are now scripting it. It’s a lot of work.”
Opening up about the possibility of a biopic, Modi shared that while he personally knew Deepika Padukone, he had not met Singh before that encounter.
“One day, I received a call saying Ranveer was in London and wanted to meet me,” he said.
Modi admitted that he is unsure whether the actor is still interested in the role, as the project has yet to move into production. However, he praised Singh‘s acting skills and appreciated his performance in Dhurandhar.
“Without doubt, he’s amazing. And what he has done with Dhurandhar is amazing. Whether he still wants to play me or not, I don’t know,” he added.

An ambitious project
Talking about the scale of the proposed film, Modi said the production would be ambitious, reflecting the global nature of the IPL’s creation and expansion.
“The IPL story is not only an India story. It’s a global story, it’s a business story, and it’s a humanity story,” he said.
Modi also revealed that his story may not be confined to a feature film. According to him, a television series focusing on the history of the Modi family is also in development. He described his family’s past as highly dramatic.
“Ours is worse than Dynasty and Dallas put together. And that TV series is coming out. I am in the works of making it—the Modi family TV series,” he said.
While there has been no confirmation from Singh regarding the project, Modi’s remarks have once again sparked curiosity about who might eventually bring one of Indian cricket’s most controversial figures to the big screen.
