Mumbai: Jennifer Lawrence has revealed that she once had to confront unauthorised crew members who were present during a nude scene. The Oscar-winner said she was in a position to speak up, but a newcomer might not have been.
Lawrence spoke about the incident on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast on 28 October. While the actor didn’t name the film, she added that she felt it was important to say something, especially for younger actors who might find themselves in the same position.
“There was an instance on set where crew members who were not approved when I was doing nudity were on set. I came down hard on it, purely because if we are not setting that principle, then what on earth is going to happen to an 18-year-old unknown when she shows up and there are people on set who are not approved to be there?” Lawrence said.
The 36-year-old asserted that for someone just starting out, it could be a much harder decision. Lawrence claimed that a young actor might be afraid of being called difficult if she complained.
“She’s going to be in a position of, do I say something and get a reputation for being difficult, or do I let these people who I’m not comfortable with see me naked? It was important to me to explain that to the people why that was not okay,” The Hunger Games (2012) actor said.
The conversation also turned to the changes actors are sometimes asked to make for films. For Die My Love (2025), director Lynne Ramsay wanted Lawrence to cut her hair, dye it platinum blonde and get mullet bangs. She wasn’t too sure about it initially, but ended up liking the look.
Lawrence also spoke about returning as Katniss Everdeen in the upcoming The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Her role as the reluctant hero in the dystopian film first catapulted her to stardom. Her co-stars Josh Hutcherson and Woody Harrelson are also returning for the prequel. From Lawrence’s description, it sounded like the reunion was quite something.
“It was so crazy because it was the same crew. It was the same camera guys, the same AD who I’ve worked with a million times ’cause I love him, and Josh and Woody. And it was so emotional,” she said.
Sunrise on the Reaping follows a young Haymitch during the 50th Hunger Games, 24 years before the events of the original films. It is scheduled to release on 20 November.
