New Delhi: Avengers: Endgame Encore, the newly released extended version of the 2019 Marvel film, has now collected $86 million worldwide. Avengers: Endgame is already the second-highest-grossing film worldwide, with a box office collection of $2.79 billion.
The latest version includes five minutes of previously unseen footage, which also teases and links to the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
The re-release was the highest-grossing film of the weekend with $26 million. The film ranked behind the 1997 special edition of Star Wars, which opened with $35 million, and Disney’s 3D version of The Lion King in 2011, among the highest re-release openings.
The Avengers: Endgame Encore also featured scenes that were not part of the original storyline released. The first such scene brings Chris Evans’ Captain America back from his retirement. “But I can help you. Both of you,” Loki says in the scene. The Norse god was last seen sacrificing himself in the Loki series (2021-2023) while protecting the multiverse.
The second footage shows Bruce Banner, played by Mark Ruffalo, experimenting with gamma radiation after the events of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, trying to find ways to keep the Hulk under control. A figure, presumed to be Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, then approaches him off-screen and says, “Come to collect.” Hulk screams as the frame is filled with green magic.
The mid-credit scene brings back the Time Variance Authority, with Mobius, played by Owen Wilson, OB, played by Ke Huy Quan and Casey, played by Eugene Cordero. In the scene, a sign shows Loki winning “Employee of All Time”, but the TVA witnesses several timelines collapsing into each other.
“The multiverse is collapsing,” OB says in the clip.
The final post-credit scene is the shortest of all. Audiences can hear Tony Stark making his mask from the first Iron Man film, but the last image shown is Doctor Doom wearing the mask. Avengers: Doomsday is set to release later this year on 18 December.
