New Delhi: Weeks before Avengers: Doomsday arrives in cinemas, it has reportedly crossed $125 million in worldwide advance ticket sales. At the same time, its trailer has become one of the most-watched movie trailers in history with 503 million views in 24 hours of it being released.
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the film is scheduled to release in the US on December 18, with Indian audiences getting to watch it a day earlier, on December 17.
The film, starring Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom, began its advance booking campaign with a strong response in premium theatrical formats. In July, the film generated $16.5 million in ticket sales within the first 24 hours of premium format pre-sales, according to figures shared with TheWrap by Disney insiders.
In September, Disney chief financial officer Hugh Johnston confirmed that Avengers: Doomsday had crossed $50 million in domestic advance ticket sales, with approximately three months remaining before its release.
On October 6, box office tracker Global Box Office reported that the film had crossed $100 million in worldwide advance ticket sales. According to the tracker, Avengers: Doomsday also became the fastest film to cross $1 million in presales in the United Kingdom and Brazil.
However, the worldwide pre-sale figures were reported by a third party tracker and was not independently confirmed by Disney. By October 27, the film had reportedly crossed $125 million worldwide in advance ticket booking.
The film’s promotional campaign has also generated substantial online interest. Its first full trailer amassed 503 million views within 24 hours of its release in July. The trailer became the second biggest movie trailer launch in history, after Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which recorded 719 million views in its first 24 hours.
The film also features Chris Evans returning as Steve Rogers, alongside Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Tom Hiddleston, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, among others.
