New Delhi: Amitabh Bachchan returned to social media Thursday, breaking his silence on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, with poetry and Vijay Deenanath Chauhan’s Agneepath line. The actor put out a long post on X in Hindi describing the horror of one of the Pahalgam victims.

In an apparent show of solidarity with the victims, the Bollywood superstar had been sharing blank tweets on X and blank posts on his blog since 22 April.

The actor mentioned Manjunath Rao, a businessman from Karnataka’s Shivamogga,  who was on vacation in Kashmir with his wife and son. Rao was one of the 26 people gunned down by terrorists on the fateful day at Pahalgam.

“His wife fell at his feet and said do not kill him .. but he mercilessly shot him, and made the wife a widow in front of her eyes .. the wife then begged this monster, this demon, to kill her also .. this devil of a man said: ‘I won’t kill you .. you go and tell Modi’ ..!!” wrote the actor.

Amitabh Bachchan also shared a few lines from his father and poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s poem Aaj Mujhse Door Duniya.

The actor concluded his note with the iconic line from his 1990 film Agneepath, also the name of Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s poem. “Tu na jhukega kabhi, tu na thamega kabhi, kar shapath, kar shapath… kar shapath; Agneepath, Agneepath, Agneepath (You will not bow down or stop, take an oath.)”

‘Poet and his vision’

While Bachchan did not mention PM Modi’s name in his tweet, he wrote a detailed blog on Tumblr, lauding the military operation.

Modi and the Government decided to respond to the terrorist base camps in the neighbours and launched a military procedure .. the results of which are well known .. 9 of their terrorist camps and outfits were destroyed .. militarily,” he wrote.

The actor then went on to also note the significance of sindoor for the women whose spouses were killed in the Pahalgam attack, and the importance of Colonel Sofiya Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh leading the press briefings on the operation.

On X, Bachchan also shared another poem by his father, Sur Samar Karni Karhi, late at night on 11 May, and tweeted ‘Jai Hind’ along with the Tricolour emoticon. An hour later, he, in a separate tweet, explained the meaning of the poem, adding that his father’s vision remains relevant to date.

“Words that have expressed, greater truth than ever  .. a poet and his vision far greater than ever. Words of Babuji written around the 1965 war with Pakistan , we won and were victorious , which and for which he received the prestigious Sahitya Academy Award in 1968 ,that is almost 60 years ago .. 60 years ago a vision that still breathes the present circumstances!” the tweet read.
