New Delhi, Nov 6 (PTI) Gold prices in the national capital declined by Rs 2,500 to Rs 1.46 lakh per 10 grams on Friday amid weak spot demand on Dhanteras, with elevated rates keeping buyers cautious.
The 99.9 per cent pure yellow metal fell Rs 2,500 to Rs 1,46,300 per 10 grams (inclusive of all taxes) from Thursday’s close of Rs 1,48,800 per 10 grams, according to the All India Sarafa Association.
Silver prices also dropped Rs 2,000 to Rs 1,92,500 per kilogram, inclusive of all taxes, from Rs 1,94,500 per kg in the preceding session.
Traders said demand remains subdued in the national capital despite Dhanteras, which is considered the most auspicious day in the Hindu calendar for making new purchases.
Dhanteras is associated with Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Kuber and Dhanvantari.
Several jewellers reported little or no improvement in sales compared to last year. Elevated precious metal prices and uncertainty over their movement have made consumers cautious, prompting many buyers to opt for lighter jewellery, they added.
Gold prices remain higher than the Rs 1,32,400 per 10 grams recorded on Dhanteras on October 18, 2025. Silver was also cheaper at Rs 1,70,000 per kg on the occasion last year.
According to the World Gold Council, India’s gold jewellery demand fell 20 per cent in volume terms in the September quarter, while its value rose 16 per cent year-on-year.
Sharwan Goyal, Executive Vice President & Head – Passive, Arbitrage and Quant Strategies and FM (Equity) at UTI AMC, said gold acts as a store of value and portfolio diversifier, while silver provides exposure to industrial themes, such as solar and electric vehicles, though it carries higher volatility.
In international markets, spot gold fell USD 20.41, or 0.5 per cent, to USD 4,068.71 per ounce. However, silver traded marginally higher at USD 52 per ounce. PTI HG HG BAL
