New Delhi, Jul 18 (PTI) Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will perform the Bhoomi Pujan of the world’s largest curd production plant under the Amul Bengal Dairy Project at the New Town Convention Centre in Kolkata on July 19, officials said on Saturday.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, along with several dignitaries and representatives of the cooperative sector, will be present on the occasion, they said.
Amul is setting up the Amul Bengal Dairy Project at the Howrah Food Park in the state at an investment of about Rs 700 crore, the cooperation ministry said in a statement.
The plant, once completed, will have the capacity to process around 30 lakh litres of milk per day and produce approximately 1,000 tonnes, or 10 lakh kg, of curd and other cultured dairy products daily, they said.
The project’s proposed daily production capacity also includes packaging of 10 lakh litres of milk, processing of two lakh litres of UHT milk, production of one lakh litres of ice cream, 20 tonnes of paneer, 10 tonnes of ghee, and 10 tonnes of sweets, besides around 2.5 lakh packs of flavoured milk, according to the ministry.
More than 1.25 lakh milk-producing farmers, including over 30,000 women, are currently associated with Amul’s cooperative network in West Bengal, the ministry said, adding that about nine lakh litres of milk are being procured in the state every day through the network.
The ministry said the project will expand modern processing, value addition and marketing facilities in the state’s dairy sector and provide farmers a better and sustainable market for their produce.
During the programme, an MoU will be exchanged between Bharat Taxi and the West Bengal Department of Information Technology and Electronics for the operation and expansion of mobility services in the state, they said.
Shah will present a registration certificate to one of over 200 newly constituted Dairy Cooperative Societies set up in the state under White Revolution 2.0, and symbolically hand over a certificate to one of 11 newly registered Multipurpose Rural Cooperative Societies, the officials said.
The Union minister will also launch the e-RCS portal, developed for computerisation of the office of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies in West Bengal, aimed at making registration and other administrative processes digital and transparent, they said.
Shah will lay the foundation stones of 14 storage warehouses with a total capacity of 1,400 metric tonnes across 10 districts, to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 5.98 crore, the officials said.
He will also inaugurate two warehouses of 100 metric tonnes capacity each, constructed in South 24 Parganas and Cooch Behar at a total cost of Rs 73.61 lakh, they added. PTI LUX TRB TRB
