Ahmedabad, Jul 12 (PTI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday virtually inaugurated a heritage-themed public park developed by UNM Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Torrent Group promoters, on the eastern bank of the Sabarmati river in Ahmedabad.
Developed in partnership with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), the Rs 10-crore Heritage Park spans 20,000 square metres between Swami Vivekananda Bridge and Nehru Bridge and is the 12th public park created and maintained by the foundation under its Pratiti urban renewal initiative, the foundation said in a statement.
The park features five permanent installations depicting Ahmedabad’s historical and cultural evolution, including exhibits on the city’s ruling dynasties, the Royal Axis linking Bhadra Fort, Teen Darwaza and Jama Masjid, the traditional Mata ni Pachhedi folk art, the city’s changing urban centre and the once-popular circus grounds on the Sabarmati riverbed.
UNM Foundation said the park has been designed as a “living canvas” to showcase Ahmedabad’s social and cultural transition through interactive public installations.
With the addition of the Heritage Park, the foundation now maintains 12 parks in Ahmedabad covering more than 1.5 lakh square metres, representing over 15 per cent of the city’s total green area. Four more parks spanning over 40,000 square metres are under development.
Under its Pratiti initiative, the foundation has restored and maintains 17 parks, two lakes and other green spaces across Gujarat, covering a total of 8.44 lakh square metres. It has also committed to restoring and maintaining 69 lakes in and around Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.
UNM Foundation said its philanthropic initiatives across healthcare, education, ecology, art and culture have benefited more than 25 million people across Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and the Union Territory of Daman. PTI ANZ TRB
