Japan strengthens cultural ties with India at Mumbai Film Festival

Chief Deputy Consul General speaks about 10-year partnership with NFDC and future collaborations.

Toshihiro Kaneko, Chief Deputy Consul General of Japan, spoke about the strengthening cultural ties between Japan and India at the 18th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF). He was addressing a Press Conference at MIFF 2024, talking about the deep connection between the two countries’ history and culture, a PIB press release stated.

 The Chief Deputy Consul General made a special emphasis on the importance of the 10-year-long partnership between Japan and the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC). He highlighted the various categories and genres of Japanese films that have participated in the festival, including International Competition, ‘Japanese Films’ section, Special Screening Package, and Mosaics.
 He expressed hope for future collaborations and encouraged filmmakers and producers to explore coproduction opportunities. He also spoke about the growth of the animation sector in Japan and the opportunities for collaboration with Indian technicians. The Chief Deputy Consul General also spoke about the tourism promotion efforts of Japan, which were aimed at promoting the country as a preferred destination for filmmaking. He expressed optimism about future collaborations and encouraged filmmakers and producers to explore coproduction opportunities.
The 18th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) is being held with a strong focus on showcasing Indian cinema and culture to a global audience. The festival is also an opportunity to promote international cooperation and understanding. The Chief Deputy Consul General’s visit to Mumbai is a testament to the growing cultural ties between Japan and India.
