New Delhi: The Indian Army has taken cognisance of a viral video of an Army Captain proposing to his girlfriend after the passing out parade in front of a military helicopter and asked him to respond.
Defence sources said the young officer violated several Army rules and regulations, and his senior officers have sought a reply from him.
The sources said that while the Army understands the Captain’s desire to propose to his girlfriend, the occasion and location were inappropriate.
Moreover, the Army is very clear against using military equipment for self-social media posts.
The sources said that while no formal disciplinary action is likely since he is a young officer who has not committed any serious offence, his seniors have been made aware of the violations and asked to sensitise him about the rules, regulations, and behaviour becoming an officer.
The young officer had proposed to his girlfriend in front of family, fellow officers and guests just after completing the passing-out parade at the Combat Army Aviation Training School (CAATS) in Nashik Tuesday.
He also gave a sound bite to the media, saying the decision felt natural because the day already meant so much to him and his family.
“We have all become pilots and instructors today. It was a big day for all of us. Our hard work yielded fruit today… We have known each other for the past five years. I don’t think there is a better day than this to propose marriage to her. This is a big day for my family too. I wanted to make this day memorable for my fiancée too.”
The sources argued that the uniform comes with respect and every jawan and officer should honour that and not allow social media to influence their actions.
