New Delhi: The Centre is planning to open counter terror force National Security Guard’s (NSG), seventh hub in the temple town of Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced Tuesday.
It is planned to be housed near the famous Ram temple, in the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra, ensuring its troops are readily available round the clock.
Shah was addressing the troops and senior officials of the NSG on the occasion of the force’s raising day. Shah praised the force for carrying out several successful counter terrorism operations over the years since its inception in 1984.
“The NSG has implemented the mantra of security at all places and all times on the ground since 1984 and has faced with bravery several threats to national security. The entire country is proud of its bravery and efforts,” Shah said Tuesday.
“The Modi government is also going to make major changes to the work of the NSG in the coming days. Six hubs have already been established – in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Jammu. A new hub is also going to be built in Ayodhya. NSG personnel will be deployed and available here 24 hours a day. This force will be on standby in six zones across the country,” Shah further explained.
The Ram temple in Ayodhya has attracted crores of pilgrims to the town in the Faizabad district, prompting increased security measures by the state and the central government. The state’s Special Security Force (SSF) is also deployed on the temple premises, while the airport, which primarily serves pilgrims entering and exiting the city, is guarded by the Central Industrial Security Force.
“The NSG has prepared a data bank based on a detailed study and reconnaissance of the architectural structures of 770 important establishments, including the Parliament, vital installations and waterways, done over a period of four decades that would help in forming quick strategies in case of security emergencies,” Shah said.
He also spoke of Operation Sindoor and Mahadev, which were launched by security forces on terror launchpads in Pakistan and against perpetrators of the Pahalgam terrorist attack.
Earlier in the day, Shah also inaugurated the Special Operation Training Centre (SOTC) at the NSG’s facility in Haryana’s Manesar, which was built at a cost of Rs 141 crore, and said that the facility would not be limited to the training of troops of the central armed force.
“I want to tell all the state police forces that the Special Operation Training Centre inaugurated today is not only for NSG, but it will train all of you. We are going to make big changes in the role of NSG. NSG’s new hub is being stationed in Ayodhya. With this, all six such hubs of NSG, known as SSG, will help in mitigating any terror attack,” Shah added.
