Strong regional leaders are no more welcome in the BJP than they were in the Congress. See how Vasundhara Raje and Raman Singh have vanished from the news cycle. BSY is a maverick who has persevered. There is something special about Shri S S Chouhan. Served three consecutive terms, remained personally popular, contained anti incumbency to the extent reflected in the close Assembly result. Highly regarded by Mr Advani, which would be a disqualification in the new BJP. I think Nagpur must be strongly with him. There is perhaps also a growing realisation within the ruling party that future elections will need the regional leaders’ contribution. Kailash Vijayvargiya will have to take his morning walks outside Victoria Memorial for some more time.
