The surreal cop-versus-cop standoff over BJP leader Tajinder Bagga belongs in Bollywood comedy and banana republics, not a constitutional democracy. The BJP’s abuse of police and agencies to intimidate opponents, and opposition efforts to show two can tango, together imperil Indian democracy. Vendettas are easily unleashed, but impossible to end.

WHO estimating 10 times higher Covid deaths is ludicrous. India is right to question it

India’s right to question WHO’s excess Covid deaths estimate. Our official numbers aren’t accurate. But to say fatalities are almost 10 times higher is ludicrous. Just as it is to say fewer people died in China. WHO hasn’t covered itself in glory during Covid. This adds to its list of bungles.
