Karnataka govt should prioritise policy on bike taxi issue, not politics

Another issue, another knee-jerk reaction by Karnataka. Allowing bike taxis, then a court ban because of non-existent regulations and now, protests by users and riders show the government is acting on the fly. Mobility and livelihoods are at the heart of urban governance. Policy, not politics, must define government action.

RSS leader Dattatreya Hosabale has raised an interesting point by seeking the removal of ‘socialist’ and ‘secular’ from the Constitution’s Preamble. Ideological debates apart,  Constitutional amendments from an illegitimate Emergency-era Parliament in its sixth year have no sanctity. All of these should go, including the remnants of the 42nd Amendment.
