With ‘no foul play’, CBI closed the nonsensically longwinded Sushant Singh Rajput case. Sadly, nobody pays for the medieval inquisition of bloodthirsty TV, cynical agencies, and moral vigilantism. Charges against Rhea Chakraborty mocked the law, and reason died in the witch-hunt. Have we learned our lesson? You can’t be sure.

The lesson is to be learnt not so much by us as ordinary citizens, who have high expectations from the media, across formats, but by a cohort of TV journalists who have taken their channels to a space where they have never been before. It is too much to expect that they will now invite Ms Rhea Chakraborty to their shows to make amends.
