A Tripura student’s murder in Dehradun tears through India’s claim of diverse cosmopolitanism. Anjel Chakma was called “Chinese” and “momo” before he was stabbed. He insisted he was Indian. That didn’t help. Arrests and condemnations won’t fix the bias and bigotry that people from India’s Northeast face again and again.
SC’s intervention in Kuldeep Singh Sengar’s case shows nobody is above the law
SC’s intervention in Kuldeep Singh Sengar’s case was necessary. It underscores no one is above the law and reaffirms that justice must be visible, credible, uncompromising. HC’s narrow interpretation of public servant disregards a POCSO victim’s struggles against structural barriers. The judgment should be reviewed in the interest of justice.

Unfortunate that such a basic proposition needs to be validated from time to time.
