  1. The Pakistani establishment’s mastery over the dark arts is known to all. The United States put it to good use in driving the Soviets out of Afghanistan, contributing to the eventual collapse of the Soviet Union. 2. Equally true that intense conflict between India and Pakistan is not something the world is happy with. The United States alone had the power to do something about it, and it has. 3. It is now for India and Pakistan to step back from the recent crisis and explore whether they can find a way to live with each other.
